Alexa, queue up Kaleem Taylor “Questions”
It never ceases to amaze me, the power of music. How it can trance you back to your yesterday and yesteryears and cause you to reflect on things that you hadn’t even been thinking about, but with new refreshing perspectives and a redirecting of your mindset, or maybe that’s just me.
I am new to listening to Kaleem Taylor, but I have fallen in love with the authenticity of the words in his songs, especially “Questions” when he sings,
Just because I love you and you love me doesn’t mean
That we’re meant to be together no, no, no, no
Just because I love you and you love me doesn’t mean that
Cause sometimes a good thing don’t work out
Whew, shit, the truth of this! I learned the hard way that in relationships, unfortunately, LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH. Never in my life had I thought such words could be valid, but bay-bee, let me tell you, they are and honestly, I wish I had been educated on this earlier in life, I could’ve saved myself years of pain.
Going through the aftermath of my divorce showed me that no matter how much you love someone, if you find yourself fighting a battle that just seems you can’t win, it’s better to let go, heal, and allow yourself the chance to be with someone new and accomplish what you couldn’t with your ex. It doesn’t mean that you no longer love them, no, the kind of love you had for them may have transitioned to something different, but what it does mean is that you’ve just made a decision to give yourself grace in knowing that what causes your peace to constantly be disrupted may have an expired purpose for the season you’re in. And that is ok, but it is important to be honest and recognize when that happens as to not waste any more time or energy on dry bones.
Having gone through the experience of this has shaped not only my needs and wants in my next life accomplice, but it has also given me the strength to walk away if the relationship no longer serves me. Make sure you do the same.
Amen, hallelujah, yes, right, 100% true… Love this! There so much that can be dissected out of this writing. I pray that you received all you needed to receive as you poured into this writing. I also pray that whomsoever read this will be set free!
